Reservoir: Material Balance
Calculation and forecasting of average reservoir pressure using material balance, accounting for production, injection and aquifer influx.
- Reservoir pressure, hydrocarbons in place and aquifers
- Calculate average reservoir pressure over time, accounting for production, injection, fluid properties, rock compressibility and water influx. Estimate hydrocarbon volumes in place, gas cap volume and aquifer parameters.
- Graphical material balance analysis
- Construct and interpret p/z, Cole, Campbell and Havlena–Odeh diagnostic plots. Estimate hydrocarbon volumes in place, identify reservoir drive mechanisms and assess aquifer effects. Check pressure measurements and production data for consistency with the selected model.
- Fluid properties, relative permeability and history matching
- Model fluid PVT properties using black-oil models and equations of state (EOS). Describe relative permeability with tables or Corey and LET models. History-match the model by refining reservoir and aquifer parameters and relative permeability curves. Assess the match against measured data.
- Wells and short-term forecasting
- Account for actual production and injection rates by well. Forecast oil, gas and water production, considering well operating conditions and specified constraints. Compare production and injection scenarios by reservoir pressure trends, water cut and gas–oil ratio.
